CSU History, Constitution, and American Ideals

The California State University, before awarding a degree, requires students to complete courses or examinations that address:

This requirement may be fulfilled at a California Community College prior to transfer by completing a combination of the courses that satisfies all three areas of the requirement.

The requirement may also be completed at a CSU campus after transfer. Courses approved in two areas may be used to satisfy both areas.

  1. Completion of the Advanced Placement examination in US History with a score of 3 or higher will satisfy the requirement for area US-1.
  2. Completion of the Advanced Placement examination in US Government & Politics with a score of 3 or higher will satisfy the requirements for area US-2.

Courses used to fulfill this requirement may not also be used in IGETC. Complete IGETC lists can be found in ASSIST.

Some colleges allow the units earned by fulfilling this requirement to also be used for CSU GE-Breadth Certification. Check with an advisor for details. Complete CSU GE-Breadth Certification lists can be found in ASSIST.
